Johnson Competes at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Former All-American Returns to National Stage in Final NCAA Meet

June 8, 2007

Sacramento, Calif. - Sharonda Johnson competed in her final NCAA meet today as she competed in the preliminary round of the triple jump at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State University Friday.

Johnson finished 24th after the preliminary round, with a long of 12.77m (41' 10.75") in the event.

Johnson suffered a season-ending knee injury last season, making her comeback story a remarkable one.

"For any athlete to recover from the knee surgeries that she has had," said Niners head coach Bob Olesen. "It's an amazing testament to her focus to get back to this level of competition."

Johnson earned first-team district three all-academic honors from ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA and looks to get on the national ballot with her 3.89 GPA in chemistry.

Saturday, the last remaining competitor in the Championships, Shareese Woods, will run in the 200m dash finals, live on CBS. The broadcast begins at 1 p.m. Eastern time, and runs for two hours. The 200m dash finals are scheduled to run at 1:44 p.m.
