Woods Earns Sixth-Place Finish at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Senior Breaks 200m School Record Three Times

June 9, 2007

Sacramento, Calif. - Charlotte senior Shareese Woods finished sixth in the 200m final at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Sacramento State University.

Woods broke the 200m school record in every heat she ran for the weekend and bettered it again with a 22.74-second time in the finals.

In the preliminary round, Woods ran 23.04 seconds to get to the semifinals on Thursday. Later in the evening, she competed in the semifinals and turned in a 22.84-second time.

During the weekend, she trimmed over a quarter of a second (0.27) off of the school-record time to finish sixth.

Last season, Woods finished fourth in the National Championships in the 200m, but the field turned in faster times than last year.

"We're very proud of Shareese," said Niners head coach Bob Olesen. "This was as tough a field as she's ever faced and she still turned in her fastest times. We're looking forward to the final meet of her collegiate career."

Woods and other selected Niners will run at the U.S. Track and Field Championships, beginning Wednesday, June 20.
