CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers' women earned their first two Conference USA outdoor titles on Friday, winning the long jump and high jump on day two of the league track and field championships. Amber Reddick earned the title of the 49ers' first C-USA champ with a win in long jump. Later in the evening, Adrienne Barnette won the high jump.
Their wins helped the women rank sixth at the end of day two with 36.5 points. South Florida leads the women's standings with 66 points. The men are ninth with 13 points. Memphis is in front in the men's competition with 36 points.
Reddick covered a distance of 19'3.25" to win the event, more than two inches better than runner-up Brittany Hedgepeth of Louisville. It was her second-longest mark of the season. Barnette won the high jump with a height of 5'7". The duo joins the men's Kenneth Svendsen (10,000 meters), Will Montgomery (long jump) and Rephel Martin (long jump, triple jump) as outdoor C-USA champions.
Danielle Taylor and Adrienne Lunsford also had a strong showings for the women. Taylor was second in the pole vault with a height of 12'. It ties the the school record she set earlier this year at Virginia Tech and is also an NCAA regional qualifying mark. Lunsford captured third in the long jump with a distance of 18'10.75".
For the men, Brad Bailey turned in a third-place showing in the decathlon. He scored 6,716 points over 10 events, bettering his own school record by 259 points. Adam Evans and James Bacon posted quick times as well on Friday, advancing to the finals in the 400-meter dash. Evans circled the track in 47.38 seconds, while Bacon completed his circuit in 47.58.
