LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Will Montgomery won the long jump and Matt Rausch and Ian Dickinson placed second in the shot put and 5,000 meters, respectively, for the Charlotte 49ers' track and field team on day two of the Conference USA Championships. The 49ers men are currently in second place with 35 points, while the women's squad is in 10th with 12 points.
Cincinnati leads the men's competition with 37 points, followed by Charlotte (35), DePaul (33) and TCU (28). One the women's side, Houston leads with 57 points, followed by Marquette (55) and South Florida (47.5).
Montgomery won the long jump, covering a distance of 25'9.25". It is his second NCAA provisional qualifying mark, ranking 10th nationally, and equals his own school record. Rausch also had a big day for Charlotte. One day after taking second in the hammer, he took second in the shot put with a throw of 55'10.5". Dickinson posted his runner-up finish in the 5,000, turning in a time of 14:23.50. Although, it was the preliminaries, Derrick Johnson stepped up to post NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the 100 and 200 meters. He ran a 10.33 in the 100 and a 20.65 in the 200. His time in the 200 ranks 14th nationally.
Monica Turner led the women on day two, finishing second in the long jump with a season-best distance of 19'2.5". Adrienne Lunsford also scored for the Niners with a seventh-place finish of 18'4.5". Danielle Taylor also matched her season-best and scored for the Charlotte in the pole vault. She was seventh after clearing a height of 10'11.75". Michelle Dixon broke Charlotte records in the prelims of the 100- and 200-meter dashes on day two. She posted times of 11.63 in the 100 and 24.00 in the 200.
