PHILADELPHIA - The Charlotte 49ers' Matt Rausch led the track and field team at the Penn Relays this weekend in Philadelphia. Rausch competed for the Niners in the championship sections, the sections with the highest level of competition, of the shot put and hammer.

Rausch placed seventh in the shot put. His throw of 56'5.75" was more than five inches better than his previous season-best. He also finished third in the hammer, throwing 211'4". Although it wasn't as strong as his record-setting mark last weekend at Auburn, it is his fifth provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships.

This weekend, the 49ers will send representatives to Stanford, where they will compete at the Cardinal Invitational.
