April 15, 2005

Knoxville, Tenn. - The 49ers continued to compete on the second day of the 2005 Sea Ray Relays, hosted by the University of Tennessee on Friday. The meet continues on Saturday.

Adrienne Barnette finished second overall and was the top collegiate finisher in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches). That mark qualifies her to compete in the NCAA East Regionals later this spring. Barnette holds the record in the event (5-10.50), set last outdoor season.

Ryan Keziah was 17th in the 110-high hurdles, with a time of 14.56, while Montray Gilchrist was 23rd in 14.69. Keziah's time moves him into fourth place on the school's all-time chart.

James Bacon was eighth in the 400 meter dash, recording a personal-best time of 47.29. Bacon improves upon his second all-time standing, bettering his old time by 0.29 second. He missed NCAA Regional qualification by just 0.03 seconds.

Benjamin McCallum finished 22nd in the open 100-meter dash finals, clocking in at 10.89.

Alex Stewart finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, at 9:35.32, while Verun Tahiliani was 11th in 9:46.01.

Liz Smith ran a personal-best 2:15.29 in the 800 meter dash, placing 31st overall. Smith moved up on the school's all time top ten list, and now ranks second all-time.

Carlitha Sturdivant placed 20th in the 400 meter dash, while Tempess Stark was 25th in the open 100 meter dash.

Paris Smith competed in the 100 and 400 hurdles, finishing 27th.

In the women's 1,500-meter run, Jane Daniels inserted her name among the all-time Charlotte best. Daniels finished 25th overall, clocking in at 4:40.96 to rank eighth on the school's all-time list.
