CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Highlighted by Kenneth Svendsen breaking the school record in the 1,500-meter run, which had stood since 1991, the 49ers' track and field teams hosted seven other schools at the Charlotte Invitational. The women's team broke four school records, while the men broke two.
Aisha Thomas broke the Charlotte record in the 100- and 200-meter dash, winning both events. She won the 100 with a time of 11.86 then the 200 with a time of 24.03. Monique Brown lowered the school's fastest mark in the 400 hurdles. She finished second with a time of 1:00.41. Jenn Carcagente bettered her own best effort in the javelin with a throw of 131'3" to win the event. Kathleen Ramos also broke her own record in the hammer with a throw of 150'4".
Svendsen's record in the 1,500 led the men's team. He won the event with a time of 3:50.56. The previous record was 3:50.91 set in 1991. Koiyan Morlu also set a 49ers record, finishing second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.40.
The Niners return to action April 21, when they compete at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
