DURHAM, N.C. - Led by Aisha Thomas, who broke her own school records in the 200 and 400 meters, the Charlotte 49ers track and field team competed the the Duke Invitational Saturday.
Thomas broke lowered the Charlotte record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.34 to finish second overall in the developmental section. She set the previous record, 24.64, two years ago at the Charlotte Collegiate Series meet. She also bettered her record in the 400 with a time of 55.35 to finish sixth. She added her name to the 400 record two years ago as well with a 55.63 time.
On the men's side, thrower Matt Rausch shattered his record in the hammer. He finished fourth at Duke with a throw of 198'10". His previous best was 184'7" at last year's Conference USA Championships. Twann Atkins also penned his name in the record book at Duke in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.09 to finish third. He broke teammate Brandon Isaac's record of 14.17 set at last year's Conference USA Championships.
The 49ers return to action April 14, when they host the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
