Johnson Breaks Triple Jump Record At Texas

Sharonda Johnson had her third NCAA regional qualifying mark of the season for the triple jump, breaking her own school record in the process.

AUSTIN, Texas - Sharonda Johnson led the Charlotte 49ers track and field team last weekend, breaking her own school record in the triple jump at the Texas Relays.

Johnson posted a mark of 43-0.25 to earn her third NCAA regional qualifying mark of the season. Competing against many of the same competitors she went up against the NCAA Indoor Championships, she placed seventh in the event.

In addition to competing at Texas, Charlotte was at the Duke Invitational. There, Tsehaye Dagnachew lowered the school record in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:01.70 to finish fourth in her section.

Alex Stewart led the men's team at Duke. He posted a time of 9:33.97 in the steeplechase, fast enough to earn a trip to this summer's USATF Junior Nationals.

The 49ers will be in action at home this weekend, hosting the the Charlotte Invitational. It will be the team's second and final home meet of 2004.
