GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Charlotte's track and field teams were represented at two meets this past weekend. In addition to having competitors just up the road at the Raleigh Relays, the 49ers were also at the Florida Relays.

Derrick Johnson had the biggest weekend for the men, placing second at Florida in the 200-meter dash with a 20.89 time. His time was wind-aided, but was within the parameters to count as an NCAA regional qualifying mark. It did not allow for a school record, however. Brad Bailey also had a solid weekend in Gainesville, finishing second in the decathlon with 6,611 points.

Riaan Lourens led the men's team at NC State. He posted a time of 1:52.13 in the 800, just off the school record (1:51.97) and less than two seconds off a qualifying mark (1:50.62).

Adrienne Barnette and Sharonda Johnson led the women's team last weekend. Both competed at Florida. Barnette tied her own school record and posted and NCAA qualifying mark in the high jump for the second week in a row with a height of 5-10 to place fourth. Johnson won the triple jump for the second-straight week. She recorded a distance of 42-5.25 to raise the Charlotte record and qualify for the NCAA regionals. The women also broke the school record in the 4x400-meter relay. Bernadette Washington, Angel Moore, Shareese Woods and Carlitha Sturdivant teamed up to post a time of 3:43.08.

Charlotte will compete at two meets again this weekend. The 49ers will be at both the Texas Relays and Duke Invitational.
