CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers track and field teams opened the outdoor campaign this weekend, hosting the 49ers Classic. The Niners broke three school records and posted three NCAA regional qualifying marks at the meet.
The women broke a pair of Charlotte records in field events. Adrienne Barnette bettered the previous mark in the high jump with a height of 5-10 to win the event. Her distance was also a regional qualifying mark. Adrienne Lunsford earned a trip to regionals as well, breaking the school record in the long jump. She won the event with a distance of 19-2.75.
Derrick Johnson led the men's team. He broke his own school record in the 100-meter dash with a qualifying mark of 10.29 second to place second in the event.
This weekend, the team will send representatives to a pair of meets. Charlotte will compete at the Raleigh Relays at NC State and the Florida Relays.
