CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers track and field teams opened the outdoor season at home this weekend, competing in the 49ers Classic. The Niners broke school records in four events, two for the men and two for the women.

Derrick Johnson had the strongest outing for the men, breaking school records in both the 100- and 200-meter dash. He finished fifth in the 100 with a time of 10.60, while also placing second in the 200 with a 21.29 time.

The women had a pair of records fall in field events. Amber Reddick raised her school record in the triple jump, covering a distance of 40'7" to win the event. Kathleen Ramos also broke her own record, placing ninth in the hammer throw with a 151'5".

Charlotte returns to action this weekend, when they send representatives to meets at Wake Forest and Davidson.
