FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sharonda Johnson closed out the indoor season for the Charlotte 49ers' track and field teams, placing 15th in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships. She became the first member of the women's team to earn a trip to the indoor championships, held at Arkansas.
Johnson had her best distance on her first attempt, posting a 41-1.75 mark. She recorded fouls on her next two attempts. Ineta Radevica of Nebraska won the event with a distance of 44-10.75.
Johnson is third member of the women's team to compete at NCAAs. She joins Molly Kerin and Amber Reddick (2003), who competed at the outdoor championships.
Charlotte begins the outdoor season next weekend, when they host the 49ers Classic, March 18-20. The meet will be held at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
