49ers Wrap Up Weekend At C-USA Championships

HOUSTON - Charlotte wrapped up its participation in the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday afternoon at Houston. The men finished fourth in the standings, while the women were sixth on the strength of Sharonda Johnson's win in the triple jump.

The 49ers' men ended Saturday with 76 points. Houston pulled away from the competition on the second day, winning the title with a score of 181 points. Riaan Lourens and Eli Sunquist led the men on day two, placing second in the 800 meters and triple jump, respectively. Lourens posted a time of 1:54.19 in the finals, while Sunquist had a distance of 49-2.50. Brad Bailey also earned All-C-USA honors, placing third in the heptathlon with 4,648 points.

Charlotte's women scored 47 points to place sixth. TCU claimed the championship with 125 points. Johnson's win in the triple jump led the women on Saturday. She won the event with a distance of 42-11, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Adrienne Barnette also earned all-league notice for the women, placing second in the high jump with a distance of 5-8.
