FAIRFAX, Va. - The Charlotte 49ers women's track and field team broke school records in the triple jump and 4x400-meter relay at Saturday's George Mason Collegiate Open. The men's team posted a pair of wins, placing first in the 200 meters and 4x400 meters.
Amber Reddick broke her own record in the triple jump, covering a distance of 12.24 meters to finish second. Her previous best was 12.20 meters at the Virginia Tech Pepsi Invitational in 2001. The 49ers were third in the 4x400 with a school record time of 3:55.71. Bernadette Washington, Michelle Dixon, Tayesha Gass-Gray and Aisha Thomas teamed up to set the new mark. Charlotte also set that previous best at Virginia Tech two seasons ago with a 3:56.54 time.
Abe Morlu posted the best individual showing for the men, winning the 200-meter dash. His time of 22.18 is the men's fourth-best this season. The Niners men also won the 4x400 with a time of 3:16.13, the team's third-best time this season. Earlier in the year they broke the school record at East Tennessee State.
Charlotte will take next weekend off before returning to action Feb. 28 at the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
