NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Two members of the Charlotte 49ers women's track and field team added their names to the record book at last weekend's Christopher Newport's Winter Frolic. Sharonda Johnson tied the record in the women's high jump, while Danielle Taylor bettered her own record in the pole vault.

Johnson, a freshman, won the high jump with a height of 5-8 to tie the existing mark. She shares the record with Adrienne Barnette, who broke the record last season. Taylor won her event as well. She cleared a height of 11-7. Her previous best was 11-5.75, set during the 2001 season.

Reagan Barry led the men's team at Christopher Newport. He placed second in the long jump with a distance of 23-3.5, the team's season-best. Barry also tied teammate Bracy Maynard for fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 14-6.

This weekend, the 49ers compete at the George Mason Collegiate Open. In two weeks, the team travels to Houston for the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
