CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 49ers track and field teams made the second of three straight trips to Chapel Hill this weekend, competing in the North Carolina 10-Team Invitational. The men finished fourth of 10 teams, scoring 91 points. The women finished ninth of 10 with 18 points.

On the men's side, Will Montgomery qualified provisionally for NCAAs in the high jump with a mark of 7'1" to finish third. His height matches his school record set at Clemson in 2000. He also won the long jump, covering a distance of 24'3.75". Distance runner Vince Sherry finished second in the mile with a time of 4:21.48. Twann Atkins ran an 8.05 time to win the hurdles.

For the women, Bernadette Washington moved up to second on the school's all-time 200 meter list with a time of 25.40. Laura Syracuse also climbed to second in the 49ers' record book, running a 5:09.22 in the mile. Adrienne Barnette was third in the high jump with a 5'7" mark.

The Niners return to Carolina next weekend for the North Carolina Indoor Invitational.
