CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers track and field teams nearly broke a pair of records at North Carolina's Fast Times meet over the weekend. Danielle Taylor and Derrick Johnson each finished just shy of their own school records in the pole vault and 60-meter dash, respectively.

Taylor posted the team's best mark of the season in the pole vault with a height of 11-5.75. She finished ninth overall. She set the current record, 11-7, last season at Christopher Newport's Winter Frolic. Sharonda Johnson also had a big day for the women, winning the triple jump for the second week in a row with a distance of 40-3.25.

For the men, Johnson posted a 60-meter time just four-hundredths of a second shy of tying his school record, which he shares with Abe Morlu. He placed fourth overall with a time of 6.82 seconds. He and Morlu set the current mark, 6.78 seconds, in 2002. Johnson did it at the Conference USA Championships, while Morlu did it at North Carolina's Elite meet. James Hanna had the highest finish for the 49ers over the weekend, placing third in the 200 meters with a 22.30 time.

This weekend, Charlotte will compete at the Clemson Invitational.
