People watch with baited breath as National Signing Day comes and goes and this year the Charlotte 49ers Softball Coaching Staff is proud to announce the addition of six student-athletes to the signing class of 2009. Charlotte 49ers women's basketball's junior forward Ashley Spriggs was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the first time in her career after her performance last weekend in the Hoops For the Cure Tournament in Dallas, Texas. Spriggs is the fourth different 49er to earn A-10 Player of the Week honors and the first since Sabrina Gregory earned her third career A-10 Player of the Week award, January 14, 2007. Named MVP of the Hoops For the Cure Tournament after leading the 49ers to their first tournament title in seven years with wins over 2008 NCAA Tournament participants Fresno State and SMU. She recorded her first two career 20-point scoring games in the tournament. Spriggs connected on the game-winning free throws in the 49ers victory over Fresno State. Then, she knocked down the game-winning shot at the buzzer in the 49ers Championship game win over the host SMU Mustangs. She also scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds against ACC foe Wake Forest last Wednesday. In the 49ers three games last week, she averaged 16.7 points and seven rebounds.
Corey Nagy, Golf - Finished 4th at four-under par at the Annual Western Refining all-America Classic in El Paso, Texas.
Athletic Foundation - Raised 100,000 dollars and attracted a record 600 attendees to the 5th annual “Let Me Play” luncheon.
Aysha Jones, Women's Basketball - Scored a career-high 29 points against Wake Forest, which is the most point scored by a 49er since November 23, 2004

Senior forward Chris Salvaggione of the 49ers men’s soccer team was recently named TopDrawerSoccer.com third-team All-American. Salvaggione is the fifth different 49er named All-American.

Basketball Teams Celebrate Holiday Weekend in Road Tournaments
In a preseason survey, the women's basketball team noted that the team's best cook is Erin Floyd. So far this season, she's cooking on the court as Charlotte's second-leading scorer (13 points per game) and second-best shooter from the field (53%).
