49ers FSL Reservations Reach 5,000

Football Pledges Reach Chancellor's Target; Reservations Still Being Accepted

Nov. 24, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. -

As of 3:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24, the 49ers had received reservations for 5,000 Forty-Niner Seat Licenses (FSL's), meeting, in theory, the announced goal set by Chancellor Dr. Phil Dubois in his September 18 recommendation to add football. At this time, however, no money has been accepted by the 49ers ticket office. Actual sales will begin when the 49ers announce the FSL parameters and ticket policies in January.

On Nov. 13, the University Board of Trustees voted in favor of the Chancellor's recommendation, clearing the path for the 49ers to fully engage in the process of building a football program.

"We are thrilled with the tremendous support from the community," said Charlotte 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose. "Fans have proven, very rapidly, that they want Charlotte 49ers football. This was the first goal and we are optimistic that we will see similar success and enthusiasm in regard to the capital campaign."

The Chancellor's recommendation called for the sale of 5000 FSL's within six months of January's launch of FSL sales. The Chancellor's recommendation to add football went unopposed in a vote of the Board of Trustees, Nov. 13. In just over two months of the Chancellor's recommendation and less than two weeks after the Board of Trustees' approval, the pledge of support from the Charlotte community has reached the goal.

Of note, 74% of the FSL reservation accounts are held by individuals or corporations that are not currently 49er Club members. In addition, 70% of the accounts are held by university alumni.

Although the announced goal of 5000 FSL's has been reached in terms of reservations, interested individuals and corporations are still urged to add their name and contact information to the reservation list by calling the 49ers ticket office at 704/687-4949 or the 49ers Athletic Foundation at 704/687-4950 or by logging on to the 49ers official athletic website, www.charlotte49ers.com. A cap on the number of FSL's sold is anticipated, but details have not yet been finalized. That information is expected to be released in a January announcement of the FSL parameters and ticket policies.
