The Charlotte 49ers volleyball program will host their sixth annual "Dig for the Cure" Night, Friday, October 24 in a home match against Rhode Island at 7 p.m. The Dig for the Cure match, started by former Charlotte 49ers head coach Lisa Marston in 2003, has caught on with nearly 200 programs participating this season to bolster a total of $340,000 raised across the country.
The Charlotte squad collects pledges based on different criteria such as a player's digs in a match, the team total digs, or just a flat donation.
Participating schools designated one home volleyball match in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or November. The money raised by each team goes directly to the Komen For The Cure Foundation's local affiliate in their community.
