Curtis Withers posted back-to-back double-doubles in a pair of 49ers wins, including a monstrous 23-point; career-high 21-rebound outing in the 49ers 62-49 win over Dayton. That is the first 20-20 game in the 10-year history of Halton Arena and the 49ers' first 20-20 since Cedric Maxwell had two during the 1976-77 season.
Withers started the week with a 20-point; 15-rebound outing in a win at St. Bonaventure and was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. The all-America candidate became the first 49er to grab 20 or more rebounds in a game in 16 years (since Jan. 4, 1990; Cedric Ball, 22 vs. South Florida). His 21 boards are the most pulled in by an A-10 player this year and tie for the 4th-most all-time in A-10 history. He leads the A-10 with 12 double-doubles and now has 40 in his career, becoming the third 49er, ever, to reach 40 double-doubles.
In the win over Dayton, he also pulled his 900th career rebound, becoming the 4th player in school history to reach that plateau. Withers also cracked the 49ers all-time Top 10 in scoring in the win over Dayton, surpassing Demon Brown with 1571 career points.
Other nominees: Sakellie Daniels (women's basketball), Russell Slade (men's indoor track), Courtney Patterson (women's indoor track), Chris Taylor (baseball)
