Sophomore guard Leemire Goldwire has been named 49ers Player of the Week.
Goldwire led the 49ers to victories in their first two A-10 contests with his first-ever back-to-back 20-point outings. Along the way he tied the 49ers all-time school record by hitting 37 consecutive free throws. He wass named the Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week, as well.
Goldwire led the Niners to a key A-10 road win at Dayton, Saturday, with a game-high 23 points on 6-of-9 shooting (2-of-5 3FG). He was a perfect 9-of-9 from the line against Dayton, matching all-time leading scorer Henry Williams with 37 consecutive free throws made. He was named the Player of the Game by the A-10 TV Network that broadcast the contest.
He also poured in 20 points and added a career-high six assists in the Niners home victory over Rhode Island, Wednesday. He hit 7-of-10 shots from the floor and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
For the week, Goldwire shot .684 from the field and .545 from three-point range while averaging 21.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds.
Goldwire shares the award this week with Xavier's Brian Thornton, who posted back-to-back double-doubles in wins over Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure.
