Dear 49er Friends,
It has been a while since my last correspondence and much has happened. Instead of reiterating what has already been reported; I hope to enlighten you about some of our future projects.
It is no secret that we had limited television exposure in men's basketball this year. The conference partnered with CSTV and whereas the contract was good for the conference overall, CSTV was not yet available in the Charlotte market/region. Thus, the result affected our exposure. That's the bad news. The good news is, that is changing. CSTV is now in the Charlotte market on Channel 139 on Time Warner Cable. This is a tiered channel; similar to the old C-Set, but you will be able to watch the Niners more in 2007-08.
The new Robert & Mariam Hayes Baseball Stadium will be open for business in late March. We will not have a totally "finished project," but our team will be able to compete on the field. Completion is scheduled for late May. The Niners have been successful at home thus far, but the definition of "home" is not on-campus. We have been a little like nomads!
Phase II of our Golf Facility project is getting underway. The plans include a locker room/meeting space with video capabilities and hitting bays. The cost of phase II is approximately $500,000. We are extremely excited that Centex Construction is partnering with us to build the facility and we only have $150,000 remaining to raise before we can begin construction.
Part of our strategic plan in regard to facilities includes fundraising to build a Hall of Champions, a tennis facility, and seating improvements to softball. I am hopeful that we will be able to move aggressively on all of these projects.
Last, the football issue is being studied by a group appointed by Chancellor Dubois. Plans are being formulated for a meeting schedule to begin within the next month. I will serve as a staff liaison to the group.
Your involvement with the Charlotte 49ers is greatly appreciated. Without your support, we would not be able to build the wonderful facilities that we currently have. Your pride in our program allows us to compete at the highest levels. We are committed to providing a quality product worthy of your support.
With 49er Pride,
Judy W. Rose
