Bruce Tall was announced as the defensive coordinator for the Charlotte 49ers on April 21. Tall comes to Charlotte from Michigan and has over 25 years of collegiate coaching experience under his belt.

Tall has worked as Michigan's Defensive Line Coach the last three years.  With over 25 years of collegiate coaching experience, Tall adds another dose of veteran experience to the 49ers staff.  Offensive Coordinator Jeff Mullen has 20 years of collegiate coaching experience.

"We are very excited about Coach Tall joining our staff," said Lambert.  "He brings a wealth of defensive experience with him to the 49ers football program.  He has coached at all levels of collegiate football.  He was a coordinator at the FCS level at Harvard and Northeastern, and he's also coaches at the highest level with Michigan and West Virginia.  Just as important, he has the character and integrity that we are looking for from all the people on our staff.  We are thrilled to have him join us here in Charlotte."

Prior to his three-year stint at Michigan, Tall spent five bowl seasons as the safeties coach for Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia from 2003-07.  While at West Virginia he helped the Mountaineers to the Fiesta Bowl in 2007, the Gator Bowl in 2003, 2004 and 2006 and the Sugar Bowl in 2005.  In 2002, Tall coached the defensive line at Western Michigan.

A 1982 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan, Tall began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 1982 before coaching full time as the linebackers coach in 1983 and 1984.  After two seasons at Cornell (1985-86), Tall returned to Ohio Wesleyan for six seasons, eventually becoming the school's defensive coordinator.

He left Ohio Wesleyan for Northeastern, where he served as defensive coordinator from 1993-97.  From Northeastern he moved to Harvard, where he was defensive coordinator and linebackers coach during his four-year tenure from 1998-2001.

A native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Tall earned his degree in Health and Physical Education.  He was a three-year letterwinner in football and also lettered one year in wrestling.

Tall has coached six All-Americans and received the 2001 Assistant Coach of the Year award from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. He is a Lifetime Achievement Award winner, granted by the All-American Football Foundation. Tall's football experience extends to the NFL, completing internships in Green Bay, Detroit, Chicago and Tampa Bay.

Tall and his wife, Karmen are the parents of three children: Braythan, Karsyn and Kallyn.
