Sabrina Gregory is in her fifth overall season as a member of the Charlotte 49ers coaching staff and her third campaign as an assistant coach. She spent her first two years at her alma mater as the program’s director of operations.
“Sabrina has great passion for Charlotte and our women’s basketball program,” head coach Cara Consuegra said. “She is a hard worker who is dedicated to the success of our student-athletes. She believes in the vision we have for the future of the 49ers’ women’s basketball program.”
Gregory joined the Niners staff in 2008 after a stellar four-year career as a guard at Charlotte. She helped the 49ers win 84 games, claim the 2006 A-10 regular season title and reach postseason play all four years during her collegiate career.
During her four seasons on staff, she has been a vital part of Charlotte returning to the postseason and extending its current streak to 10-straight years, highlighted by a 2009 NCAA Tournament bid and 2011 WNIT Final Four appearance. It marked just the second NCAA appearance in school history when the Niners reached the field of 64 the year after she graduated.
Gregory represented the term student-athlete to the fullest during her playing career in the green and white. She was selected to the Division I Athletic Directors Association’s Scholar-Athlete Team for two years in a row in 2007 and 2008, coinciding with her CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team and All-Atlantic 10 Academic Team accolades the same seasons.
As a senior in 2007-08, she received a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 Third Team, her second-straight all-league honor, and earned an additional conference plaudit by being named to the All-A-10 Defensive Team.
She also garnered North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information (NCCSIA) University Division All-State accolades for the second-straight campaign.
Gregory opened her senior year by becoming the 15th player in school history with 1,000 career points, a feat she accomplished in November 2007. She would end her career with 1,286 points, ranking 11th in program history.
She also continues to rank high among all-time 49ers for games played (125), points, assists, steals, field goals made and minutes played.
She finished her senior season with a 10.6 points per game average, placing second on the team, while handing out a Charlotte-high 125 assists. Her 86 free-throw percentage topped the Atlantic 10.
Her final collegiate playing season also saw her be rewarded as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week two times.
Gregory graduated from Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics for business with a dual minor in American studies and economics in May 2008.
