The Charlotte 49ers Athletic Foundation will host the ninth Annual Let Me Play Luncheon at the Charlotte Convention Center, Oct. 18.
The Luncheon, a brainchild of Charlotte 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose, attracts prominent female corporate and community leaders and shares with them the importance athletic participation can play in the development of young women.
Proceeds from the event benefit the 49ers women's athletics program.
This year, as the country celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Title IX, Catherine Bessant, Global Technology & Operations executive at Bank of America, has been tabbed as the event's chair.
"It's an honor to chair this year's event in support of the 49ers women's athletic program and their outstanding academic, athletic and community achievement," said Bessant. "This is especially important as we celebrate the great strides women have taken since Title IX was launched 40 years ago."
Bessant added, "Like many others, I had the great opportunity to participate in organized women's sports because of Title IX. I am also proud to be part of a family with a shared, deep heritage in supporting Title IX. My father and aunt helped shape the law in their communities, and their passion for women as full participants in sports - and society in general - had a profound impact upon me and many others."
Last year, the Luncheon raised in excess of $102,000 for the 49ers women's athletic program. Former chair of the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees Ruth Shaw, chaired the event. The 395 attendees included past chairs Mary Lou Babb, Betty Chafin Rash, Pat Rodgers, Dale Halton, Felicia Hall Allen, Lisa Lewis Dubois and Samara Foxx.
If you are interested in attending the Let Me Play Fundraiser you may register online at www.letmeplaycharlotte.com. There is no fee to register but a donation at the conclusion of the event is requested.
The Let Me Play Luncheon is one of three major fundraisers hosted by the Athletic Foundation each year. In the spring, the 49ers host the 49er Club Golf Outing and the Great Gold Rush Auction.
