Junior Sarah Ann Waugh earned Capital One Academic All-District III First Team honors by CoSIDA
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte junior women's
soccer defender Sarah Ann Waugh was picked as a Capital One Academic
All-District III First Team selection as announced Thursday by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It marks the second academic honor in as many days for the Statesville, N.C., product. She was chosen as a member of the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team Wednesday. An exercise science major with a 4.0 GPA, she served as one of three captains for this year's 49ers squad that finished its season earlier Thursday with a 2-0 setback in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals to regular-season champion La Salle. Waugh registered six shots during the season, placing two on net, and nearly scoring on an attempt last Friday against Saint Louis. Her shot against the Billikens skimmed off the right post. She becomes the first Niner to receive the accolade since Megan Minnix also was tabbed to the First Team in 2010. Waugh will join her fellow District III First Team members in advancing to the national ballot. 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III First Team presented by CoSIDA Sarah Ann Waugh, Charlotte Aubrey Bledsoe, Wake Forest Maddy Haller, Duke Jackie Logue, Wake Forest Mollie Pathman, Duke Amber Brooks, North Carolina Paige Goeglein, Middle Tennessee Becca Hemby, High Point Samantha Hodge, Western Carolina Katie Stengel, Wake Forest Laura Weinberg, Duke |
