CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers have scheduled a football series with Richmond for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, inking the first dates for those two seasons.

Charlotte will play at Richmond, Sept. 10, 2016 and the Spiders will head to Charlotte, Sept. 9, 2017.  Charlotte and Richmond are both members ofthe Atlantic 10 Conference.  Richmond football competes in the Colonial Athletic Association and won the FCS National Championship in 2008.

"We are excited to have a team of the caliber of Richmond on our schedule," said 49ers head football coach Brad Lambert.  "They have won the National Championship and compete at the highest level of FCS Football.  Our fans are also familiar with the University of Richmond since we compete with them in the A-10."

Charlotte, which will unveil its football program in 2013,  will play its first football game at home, Aug. 31, 2013 vs. Campbell.  Charlotte will play its home games on-campus in the 49ers 15,300-seat Football stadium, which broke ground April 31, 2011.
