The Charlotte 49ers, who will unveil a new football program in 2013, have announced the scheduling of their first Bowl Championship Series (BCS) opponent. Charlotte will play at Virginia Tech in 2019.
"This is an important announcement for us," said 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose. "To schedule an opponent with such a great tradition that is right here in our region is exciting -- for us and our fans. I anticipate a long line of 49ers fans driving up I-81 for that game."
While the game will not be played until 2019, Rose did add that the 49ers are looking to schedule other BCS schools as early as the 2015 season.
To date, 10 games have been announced for the inaugural 2013 season. Charlotte will play its first football game at home, Aug. 31, 2013 vs. Campbell.
Football Seat Licenses are on sale, now, to offer fans the right to purchase season tickets to Charlotte 49ers football games. To purchase FSLs, which are the only way to guarantee a seat to 49ers football games, fans can call the 49ers athletic ticket office at 704/687-4949 or log on to charlotte49ers.com or charlotte49erfootball.com.
