|C-USA Champs Finish Successful Spring Season|
Charlotte, NC – The Conference USA Champion men’s soccer team completed a successful spring season with an undefeated 4-0-2 record. The 49ers outscored their six spring opponents 14 goals to two.
Charlotte began their spring schedule against England’s Pass 4, March 10th. The 49ers defeated Pass 4, 6-0. Kyle Parker, who shared the Conference USA Golden Boot Award last season, scored two goals. Hans Honer also scored two goals in the game. Monbo Bokar and Brandt Bronico, who earned 2013 Conference USA All-Freshman team honors, each tallied a goal in the 49ers victory.
The 49ers tied the USL Pro Charlotte Eagles at home, 2-2, on March 25. Parker and Bokar each scored a goal for the 49ers. Biko Bradnock-Brennan and Luke Waechter, who earned 2013 Conference USA All-Freshman team honors, had strong performances for the 49ers.
Charlotte defeated 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Wake Forest, 2-0, on the road, March 29. Bokar and Honer each scored their third goals of the spring in the 49ers victory. Charlotte had an impressive second half performance with notable performances from Max Rodriguez and David Mayer.
The 49ers tied Virginia Tech, 0-0, at home, April 5 at 2 pm. In a physical game in which there were few chances for each team Robby Thomas gave the 49ers stellar play in the midfield.
The 49ers behind Bronico’s second goal of the spring and stellar defense defeated Furman, 1-0, at home, April 9.
Charlotte concluded the spring season with a 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb on the road, April 12. Newcomer Zhunonte Wilson, Parker and Bokar scored goals for the 49ers. Charlotte dominated throughout and had standout performances from Conor Agnew and Honer.
The 49ers defense anchored by defenders Waechter, Brennan, Nick Barnhorst, and David Mayer and the goalkeepers (Austin Pack, Nicholas Hensley and Justin Savinon) only allowed two goals (which were both scored by the pro team, Charlotte Eagles) in their six spring games.
The 49ers have made nine NCAA Tournament appearances in the program’s history including four appearances in the last five years. The 49ers reached the College Cup Championship game in 2011.
The 49ers welcome back 15 letterwinners off a 2013 team that captured the Conference USA Tournament title and earned a national seed for the NCAA Tournament.
