Charlotte, N.C.- Charlotte men’s soccer team sweeps Conference USA player of the week honors with Klay Davis and Kyle Parker earning honors for their performances last week. Parker was also named College Sports Madness Conference USA Player of the Week.
Red-shirt senior net-minder Klay Davis earns C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time this season and back-to-back weeks. Davis posted a four-save shutout against FIU. The 49er keeper has not allowed a goal in nearly 285 minutes of play. Davis and the rest of the 49ers defense have shutout their last three opponents and four of the last five. “It is a team effort, with the shutouts. I couldn’t do it without the defense,” said Klay Davis.
Sophomore forward Kyle Parker is having a stellar campaign leading the team with 11 goals, with seven of those coming in the last four matches. Parker picks up his second C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honors. Parker scored in the 11th and 43rd minutes of the match against Florida International. “Most of my goals have been inside the box. It takes a team effort to get the ball in the box,” said Kyle Parker. Parker also was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the second time.
This is only the second time this season that Conference USA honors have been swept. Tulsa swept the honors earlier in the season.
Charlotte hosts the 2013 Conference USA men’s soccer tournament starting Wednesday Nov. 13 at 3 pm. when #4 South Carolina takes on #5 Tulsa. Charlotte will play the night cap against #3 UAB at 8pm.
