Charlotte, NC - Three members of the nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team earned Capital One Academic All-District Three honors. Juniors defender Thomas Allen and midfielder Tyler Gibson and sophomore Giuseppe Gentile were named to the Capital One Academic All-District three team. As a result of being named academic all-district, Allen, Gibson and Gentile will represent the district on a national ballot for Academic All-America honors.

This season, Allen has anchored a 49ers defense which has recorded nine shutouts and limited 14 foes to a goal or less. He was named to Soccer America's National team of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the 49ers 1-0 double overtime win over #14 Coastal Carolina, August 27. He earned College Soccer News National Team of the Week honors after being named to the UK Invitational All-Tournament team after helping the 49ers claim the UK Invitational title earlier this season.

Allen has a 3.36 GPA in Civil Engineering Technology.

Earlier this season, Gibson was named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy watch list. Gibson is a two-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection. This season, Gibson has scored two goals and recorded four assists. In 2010, he was named A-10 Midfielder and Rookie of the Year.

Gibson has a 3.84 GPA in marketing. Last season, he was named to the A-10 Academic All-Conference team as well as earning NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-South region honors.

Gentile leads the team in points with 18 and is tied for the team-lead with five assists. He also is second on the team with seven goals. A couple of weeks ago, he was named A-10 Player of the Week as well as TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Player of the Week after scoring three goals and recording two assists in the 49ers victories over Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Last season, he was named Soccer America National Freshman of the Year as well as A-10 Rookie of the Year.

Gentile has not declared a major yet but he has a 3.52 GPA.

Allen, Gibson and Gentile and the rest of the 49ers nationally-ranked men's soccer team plays George Washington at Transamerica Field in their final regular-season game, Saturday, November 3 at 5 pm.
