Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers men's soccer junior midfielder Tyler Gibson was just named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch list. Last season, former 49ers standout defender Charles Rodriguez was on the Hermann Trophy Watch list. Former 49ers standout and current Charlotte Eagles player Chris Salvaggione was a semifinalist for the 2008 Hermann Trophy.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The recipients are selected by head coaches of NCAA Division I programs who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Gibson is a two-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection. Last season, he started all 25 of Charlotte's games and played an integral role in helping the 49ers reach the College Cup Championship game. He also earned NSCAA first-team All-Mid-Atlantic region honors last season. In 2010, he earned College Soccer News Freshman All-American honors as well as being named A-10 Midfielder and Rookie of the Year.
The watch list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by late November. Member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced December 6. The winners will be announced at the awards' banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 11.
