CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior Amanda Goetschius and freshman Jenna Christensen have been named the Atlantic 10 women's cross country Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday. This is the second consecutive weekly award for Goetschius and the fifth of her career, while Christensen is being honored for the first time.
Competing in her second race of the season, Goetschius finished third overall at the fourth annual Charlotte Cross Country Invitational on Friday. Posting a time of 16:57 in the women's 5K, the Franklinville, NJ native was the top Charlotte scorer at the Invite, which featured over 40 teams and nearly 1,000 runners. As a team, the 49ers women finished 4th of 36 squads.
Goetschius is coming off a 21st place finish against nationally-ranked competition at the Roy Griak Invitational last weekend. Her 21:15 6K time earned her A10 Performer of the Week honors last week.
Christensen crossed the line in 18:20 at Friday's meet, good for a 36th place finish. She was right on the heels of #2 Charlotte finisher Hana Sutchar, who finished just .1 seconds ahead of her. On the season, the Cary, N.C. native has competed in three races, including a 10th place effort at the Elon Invitational two weekends ago.
Goetschius, Christensen and the rest of the 49ers will take a week off before heading to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in NCAA Pre-Nationals.
