Cross Country Finishes 21st at Roy Griak Invite

Falcon Heights, Minn. - Competing against a number of nationally ranked teams on Saturday, the Charlotte women's cross country squad put together a 21st place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minn. The Niners finished just after 20th place Kansas State, who received 15 votes in this week's national coaches poll.

Senior Amanda Goetschius was the top Charlotte finisher, coming in 21st overall in her first race of the fall. A 2010 All-American who redshirted in cross country last season, Goetschius completed the 6K event in a time of 21:15.

Junior Hana Sutchar finished second for the 49ers and 77th overall in a time of 22:06. Sophomore Katie Holloway rounded out the top three, finishing 154th overall in 22:49.

Also competing for the Niners, in her first race of the year, was senior Aurora Trujillo, who was the 184th overall finisher with a time of 23:15. Rookies Jen Molke and Kristin Stout hung together to finish 188th and 190th, respectively, in times of 23:22 and 23:25. Junior Maria Ruiz was right behind, finishing 191st in 23:26.

Charlotte will host the third-annual Charlotte Cross Country Invitational this Friday, Sept. 30th at historic McAlpine Park. Nearly 30 teams are expected to compete at the event.
