PHILADELPHIA- The Charlotte women's cross country team ended their Atlantic 10 stint with a ninth place finish at the 2012 championship earlier Saturday afternoon at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
Temple served as this year's host for the championship. Butler was crowned the champion on both the men's and women's side.
Butler finished with a team score of 37 in the women's 5k. La Salle was second (70) followed by Richmond (125), Saint Louis (134), Xavier (150), Dayton (154), Duquesne (183), St. Joseph (196), Charlotte (235), and George Washington (282) to round out the top ten.
Leading the Niners was freshman Morgan Richards. She finished 28th overall with a mark of 18:40.4. Senior Hana Sutchar was second for Charlotte and 43rd overall (18:59.3). Sophomore Jen Molke finished just a few steps behind Sutchar to place 46th with a time of 19:02.3. Sophomore Jenna Christensen was 56th (19:12.3). Rounding out the top five for the 49ers was Katie Holloway finishing with a time of 19:21.1. Charlotte averaged a time of 19:03.08 in the 5k.
On the men's side, Charlotte was 14th with a team score of 373 in the 8K. Freshmen Getisso Dentamo and John Felts were 58th and 59th respectively. Dentamo capped a time of 27:08.4 as Felts was clocked with a time of 27:08.5. Cody Hodgins was 84th (27:55.0) and Ben Sterett was 85th (27:55.8). Eleazar Garcia was fifth for the 49ers with a mark of 28:00.4.
St. Joseph was second (121), La Salle was third (122), followed by Temple (127), Duquesne (153), Dayton (176), Richmond (206), Fordham (221), Massachusetts (221), and Xavier (234) in the top ten.
The Niners are hosting the 2012 NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 9 at McAlpine Park.
