Junior guard Ny Hammonds recently sat down with the Charlotte
49ers athletic media relations office and talked about her summer and the
upcoming season. Last season, Hammonds became only the 20th
different player in school history to record 100 assists in a season when she
recorded a team-leading 109 assists.
How is your summer going? So far, so good.
What are you doing this summer? Nothing too special, just
basketball and school.
What class are you taking? I am taking the Evolution of Sociological
Theory.
What is your major? Sociology.
Did you take a class the first session of the summer? Yeah,
I took a Women's Studies class. It was work, women and money.
Is that class part of your major? No, it is a part of my
minor. I am working on a minor in Women's
Studies.
With the majority of the coaching staff being here a year
now, do you think that will help this year? Yes, it is helping already helping because
they know us better and we know them better which gives us a better feel for
each other.
Last year you went over the 100 assist mark, being only the
20th player in school history to ever do that. What did reaching the 100 assists mark mean
to you? It was okay, honestly, I don't think that is a lot of assists. I am
going to try to get more this year.
What are your personal goals and the team's goals for this
upcoming season? The team goal is always to win the Atlantic 10 Championship
and go the NCAA Tournament. Personally,
I want to be more offensive-minded, defensively I am a spark, but I want to be
more offensive-minded.
You went to high school and grew up pretty close to here,
what does that feel like playing college basketball close to your home? It was the best move I could have made. I can go home whenever I want. It is great since
my friends and family can come watch me play.
What are you doing the rest of the summer? I have been doing
a lot of shopping, other than basketball and school, I have been doing a lot of
shopping.
Who has been the biggest influence on your life? My high
school coach (Angela Morton) was a big influence on my life. Now my dad and I have
a better relationship so he is becoming a big influence on my life.
