Finalist For Rookie Coach of the Year Award

Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers women's basketball coach Cara Consuegra is one of three finalists for the 2012 Spalding Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year Award.

This distinguished award honors a WBCA Division I head coach who has led their team to a successful season during their first year at the helm. The winner will be honored at the second annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 2, in Denver. This event is part of the WBCA National Convention held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women's Final Four®.

Consuegra guided the 49ers to 16 wins and an 8-6 Atlantic 10 record in her first season at Charlotte. The 49ers earned their tenth consecutive postseason tournament berth with a bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament.

Consuegra, UC-Santa Barbara coach Carlene Mitchell and High Point coach Jennifer Hoover are the three finalists.
