TOLEDO, OH - Charlotte (27-10) saw their record-breaking season end with an 83-60 loss at Toledo (28-8) in the WNIT Semifinals. The 49ers finished the season with a trip to the WNIT Final Four and a school-record 27 wins.
"Toledo got of the gates really fast," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "We have been able to respond to the other team's runs all season but were not able to respond tonight. Toledo is a terrific team. While, our team is disappointed with tonight's performance, they should be very proud of what they accomplished this season."
Kendria Holmes led the 49ers with 14 points. Gabby Tyler scored nine points off the bench. Shannon McCallum scored eight points in her final game to finish her career with 1,525 points. Amanda Dowe scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds in the game.
Toledo scored the game's first nine points. Charlotte scored six of the next nine points cutting Toledo's lead to 12-6 with 15:17 on the clock.
Then, Toledo pushed their lead back to double-figures at 20-8 with 12:54 on the clock. Baskets by McCallum and Holmes cut Toledo's lead to nine points, 21-12, with 11:18 on the clock.
Then, Toledo blew the game open with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes taking a 31-12 with 9:16 on the clock.
Holmes cut Toledo's halftime lead to 43-23 with a three from the wing at the first half buzzer.
Charlotte cut the Toledo's lead to 20 points a couple of times early in the second half but that was as close as the 49ers would get.
Toledo advances to the WNIT Championship game while the 49ers finished the season with a school-record four postseason tournament wins, a WNIT Final Four appearance and school-record 27 wins.
