Charlotte Plays Toledo On The Road In WNIT Semifinals On National TV, Wednesday

The Charlotte 49ers (27-9) plays Toledo (27-8) on the road in the WNIT Semifinals, Wednesday, March 30 at 8 pm. The game will be carried live nationally on the CBS College Sports Network. The 49ers have won four postseason tournament games for the first time in school history to advance to the WNIT Semifinals for the first time in the program's history.

"I am excited for our program," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "I have told our players to continue to enjoy the journey. Toledo has had a similar type year. It should be a game between two evenly matched teams."


Shannon McCallum, who continued her strong play in the WNIT with her third straight 20-point scoring game with 24 points against Virginia, leads the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game. Against Florida, she went over the 1,500 career points mark. Epiphany Woodson, who has recorded 14 double-figure scoring games in the 49ers' last 15 games, is second on the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game. Woodson scored 17 points with three three-point field goals against Virginia. Jennifer Hailey, who is third on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game, leads the team in rebounding at 8.4 boards per game. Hailey, who grabbed a game-high nine rebounds against Virginia, has tallied 54 blocked shots this season which is tied for the third highest single-season total in school history. Kendria Holmes, who averages 9.0 points per game, leads the team with 146 assists which is the third highest single-season total in school history. Holmes scored 10 points and dished out seven assists against Virginia. Woodson (106 assists) and McCallum (107 assists) joined Holmes in the 100 assists club against Florida which marks the first time in school history that three players have recorded 100 assists in a season.  Gabby Tyler, who averages 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, scored 10 points off the bench against Virginia. Amanda Dowe, who averages 4.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds against Virginia. Jai Forney, who averages 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds, scored the game-winning basket in the final minute of the 49ers' overtime win over Florida. Jessica Johnson, who averages 3.5 points per game, scored nine points off the bench against Florida.

This game will mark the second meeting between Charlotte and Toledo. Charlotte lost to Toledo, 77-66, in the 1990 WNIT.
