LOS ANGELES – Charlotte’s Jennifer Hailey, the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, has been named to the Fullcourt.com Mid-Major All-American Second Team, as announced recently by the online website dedicated to women’s basketball coverage.

Hailey helped guide the 49ers to a 26-6 record, the second best in program history, and a berth in the WNIT Sweet 16 for the second time in the last three years. Charlotte placed second in the Atlantic 10 regular season with a 13-1 ledger, one game shy of nationally-ranked Dayton, under the direction of second-year head coach Cara Consuegra.

Hailey set a number of records and milestones along the way, including joining both the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound clubs. She also set the school’s career blocked shots record and was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week four times.

She joined fellow senior Jai Forney in tying the program mark for career games played, and the pair and Amanda Dowe finished as the school’s winningest senior class.

Fullcourt.com recognized Hailey’s accomplishments by noting that she was “A double-double specialist (15.4 ppg, 11.5 rpg) and the best player in the deepest non-BCS conference, Hailey earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Year honors while becoming just the fourth player in program history to finish with more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.”

Hailey is the first postseason All-American of any sort for the Charlotte program since Basketball Times honored Charlita Davis with an Honorable Mention plaudit following the 1992-93 campaign.
