CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Recent Charlotte women’s basketball graduate Amanda Dowe
has agreed to continue her playing career on the professional level, inking a contract with Uni Girona Club De Basquiet in Spain.
The club, which is based in the Spanish city of La Seu D’Urgell and located in the mountainous Northeast portion of the country near the Andorra and France borders, competes in EuroLeague Women, the highest professional basketball league in Europe for women’s clubs.
Dowe, a Tabor City, N.C., native, completed her career with an All-Atlantic 10 Third Team accolade. She was picked as the co-recipient of the March 4 A-10 Player of the Week honor after grabbing a career-best 21 rebounds in the regular-season finale at Richmond.
Dowe, who joined teammate Jennifer Hailey
as two of only 35 players nationally to average a double-double during the campaign, posted 15 double-doubles on the season to raise her career total to 23. The 21 boards against the Spiders marked the highest total by a 49ers player since December 1987 and were the first time a Charlotte player hauled in at least 20 caroms since January 1990.
She opened the road slate with a career-best 21 points at TCU, to go along with 16 rebounds for her first double-double of the year.
A member of the winningest class in program history, Dowe finished her career fourth on the school’s single-season rebounds list (374 in 2012-13) and fifth on the all-time chart (916). Her 121 games played also tied her for 10th
among the program’s best.
Dowe becomes the second recent 49ers graduate to sign professionally, joining Hailey who agreed to play in Italy beginning this season.
