CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
The Charlotte 49ers women's
basketball program and ESPN 730 AM, the flagship station for Charlotte
athletics, have announced an unprecedented agreement for upcoming Niners hoops
For the first time in the school's women's basketball history, which dates back
to 1975-76 and has been competing for the last 38 seasons, Charlotte contests
will be broadcast over the air. ESPN 730 AM has agreed to carry the upcoming
49ers' Atlantic 10 matchups with Fordham (Jan. 13) and Duquesne (Feb. 3). Both
games are Sundays and are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
"As the flagship station for the Charlotte 49ers, we are happy and excited to
have the opportunity to air additional sports programming from the Charlotte
49ers," Lanny Ford, station general manager said. "We are looking to include a
small schedule of women's basketball and the job coach Cara Consuegra
with the women's program, just as we aired a small schedule of baseball to
introduce listeners to the program coach Loren Hibbs
Ford will serve as one-half of the broadcast team for the two games. Bobby
Rosinski, assistant program director at the station, will serve as
play-by-play, while Ford will handle the color analyst duties, as he does with
Matt Swierad for the Niners' men's basketball home games.
"We are extremely excited to have ESPN 730 AM carry these games because it
gives the city of Charlotte the opportunity to listen to their hometown women's
basketball team," Consuegra said. "Lanny and Bobby have been great supporters
of our program and I'm looking forward to working with them live."
All 49ers women's basketball games are normally available for the listening
audience on Charlotte49ers.com with Josh Feldman handling play-by-play, home
Charlotte, which concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule Sunday
with a 57-33 victory over Colgate to improve to 11-3, will return to action
after a week break with the Fordham game next Sunday, Jan. 13.
In addition to the radio broadcast, Sunday's meeting with the Rams will also be
televised nationally on CBS College Sports as part of the Atlantic 10 TV
schedule. John Sadak will handle play-by-play, while Julianne Viani will serve
as the color analyst.
