|Sigmon, Hailey earn all-tournament honors|
ATLANTA - The Charlotte 49ers women's basketball team placed two of its players on the all-tournament team following the conclusion of play Sunday at the GSU Holiday & Hoops Tournament in Atlanta. Representing the Niners were sophomore Hillary Sigmon and senior Jennifer Hailey.
Sigmon's two-game performance was highlighted by an 18-point effort in the consolation game Sunday versus Mississippi Valley State. She dropped in five 3-pointers on nine attempts to finish with a team-high 18 points, just one shy of her career best. It also extended her current streak to five-straight games netting double-figure points.
In addition, she added three rebounds, all offensive, to go with an assist and steal against the Devilettes.
In the opening-round action versus Toledo, she tallied two triples among her five field goals made and finished with 12 points, one of three 49ers to reach double-digit scoring. She also had two rebounds and a steal against the Rockets.
Hailey garnered the nod after being the team's offensive catalyst against Toledo. Putting the team on her back during the second half, scoring 13-straight points during one stretch, she finished with 26 points, one shy of her career best. She converted 10-of-18 field goals and 6-of-10 field goals to conclude the contest as the game's leading scorer to go along with her nine rebounds, a blocked shot and steal.
The next day against Mississippi Valley State, Hailey continued her solid play with her eighth double-double of the season and 28th of her career with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She added two blocked shots, extending her streak to at least one block in 24 consecutive games, and a steal.
Charlotte, after its 1-1 ledger during the event, will resume action with a 9-3 overall record at Noon Thursday when it plays host to Coppin State for Education Day. It marks the first of four home contests in a five-game stretch to open the 2013 calendar for the Niners.
