Former Charlotte 49ers standout men's basketball player Kelvin Price, who is now a professional boxer, will fight Deontay Wider this Saturday, December 15 in Los Angeles in fight that is broadcast on Showtime.
Price is 13-0 as a heavyweight fighter with six knockouts. After playing professional basketball for several years after his playing days at Charlotte were over, he has been a professional boxer since 2007.
Price, who played two seasons for 49ers after transferring from University of Louisiana at Lafayette, helped the 49ers reach the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and 1999. He played an integral role in helping the 49ers capture the 1999 Conference USA Tournament title with four wins in four days. He earned All-Conference USA Tournament honors in 1999.
Price (1997-99) scored 703 points and grabbed 460 rebounds in his two-year career at Charlotte. He averaged 12.3 points and 6.4 rebounds as a senior. For his career at Charlotte, he averaged 11 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
