THE HEADLINES

The Charlotte 49ers (13-16; 5-11, A-10), seeded 12th, travel to #5-seed Saint Joseph's for the Atlantic 10 Championship First Round Game, Tuesday.   The winner will advance to the A-10 Quarterfinals against #4-seed St. Bonaventure, 2:30 Friday in Atlantic City.

A-10 Tourney: Charlotte has a 2-5 record in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, including a 2009 first round 72-62 loss as a #12 seed to #5-seed Saint Joseph's.  Charlotte has reached the quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament twice (2006, 2008) and the semifinals once (2008).

A-10 AWARDS: Junior Chris Braswell, one of three A-10 players to rank in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding, was named third-team all-Atlantic 10 while freshman Pierria Henry, the 49ers starting point guard and a two-time A-10 rookie of the Week, was named to league's all-freshman team.

49ers TURN AROUND: The 49ers had a five-game win streak, their longest under 2nd-year head coach Alan Major, went 6-9 on the road to double last year's road win total (3), have won six games that it lost last year and, at 13-16; 5-11, have surpassed last year's overall and A-10 win totals.  Defense has been at the heart of the 49ers success.  Charlotte is 9-2 when holding its opponent below 40% shooting.

1000-POINT CLUBBING: Chris Braswell became the 24th player to join the 49ers 1000-Point Club, Feb. 22 with a 19-point effort in the 72-62 win over George Washington.  The last 49er, and last junior, to reach 1000 was Leemire Goldwire, in 2007. 

     Deuce Briscoe scored his 1000th collegiate point this year, as well -- 535 of which as a freshman at NC Central.

BRAZ ATTACK: 3rd team all-Atlantic 10 choice Chris Braswell is one of three A-10 players to rank in the top 10 in scoring (10th, 15.6) and rebounding (6th, 7.6). The other two are St. Bonaventure's Andrew Nicholson and Fordham's Chris Gaston.  Braswell also shoots .510 from the field and .779 from the line. 

     This season, he scored his 1000th career-point, notched seven double-doubles to move into 6th-place all-time (22 career) and scored in double-digits in 23 games. 

                His 16.9 scoring average in league play is the most by a 49er since Lamont Mack averaged 17.6 points against the A-10 in 2008-09.

OF LATE:

Charlotte has lost three straight, and has lost its last three road games.  The 49ers have won three of the previous five. In each of the three wins, opponents were held under 70 points and to 40% shooting or less. 

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Pierria Henry (6th in NCAA in steals) has had at least one steal in every game and multiple steals in 21 games.  He has broken the 49ers 28-year old freshman record with 69 steals.

Three 49ers freshmen average 15.0+ minutes in A-10 games.

Derrio Green (166) is #10 all-time in three-pointers made, 8 shy of #9 (De'Angelo Alexander, 174). 

Javarris Barnett (133) is #13 all-time in 3FGM, 6 shy of #12.

LOOKING BACK: RECAP LAST GAME:

Charlotte put a scare in Xavier during the Musketeers Senior Day, leading by 14 in the first half and by six with 8:50 remaining.  Xavier, which shot .446 for the game, outscored the 49ers 23-8 down the stretch to win, 72-63.  Chris Braswell (11-of-15 FG), scored 28 points -- his sixth 20-point game of the season.
