THE HEADLINES

The Charlotte 49ers (13-13; 5-8, A-10) host St. Bonaventure on Senior Day, Saturday, in the midst of a three-game homestand.  Charlotte defeated George Washington, Wednesday, 72-62, to move into sole possession of 11th-place in the A-10 standings, one game out of 9th-place.  Charlotte has won three of its last five league games and has more wins (13) and more A-10 wins (5) than last year.  SBU is tied for 3rd at 8-5.

CLUBBING: Chris Braswell became the 24th player to join the 49ers 1000-Point Club, Wednesday night.  In need of 8 points, he scored the 49ers first 9 points on his way to a 19-point effort in Charlotte's 72-62 win over George Washington.  The last 49er, and the last junior, to join the 49ers' 1000-Point Club was Leemire Goldwire, in 2007.  Deuce Briscoe scored his 1000th collegiate point this year, as well -- 535 of which came as a freshman at NC Central. The last power frontcourt player to join the club was Curtis Withers, who finished up in 2006 with 1750 points.

BRAZ ATTACK: Junior Chris Braswell is one of three A-10 players to rank in the top 15 in scoring (11th, 15.3) and rebounding (6th, 7.5).  In A-10 games, he's one of three to rank in the top 10 (6th, 16.6 ppg; 10th, 7.2 rpg).  The other two are St. Bonaventure's Andrew Nicholson and Fordham's Chris Gaston.  Braswell also shoots. .500 from the field; .780 from the line and even adds .359 from long range. 

     He scored his 1000th career-point, notched six double-doubles to move into 5th-place all-time (21 career) and scored in double-digits in 21 games.

TOP A-10 Rookie: Freshman Pierria Henry, a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, was tabbed by ESPN.com's Dana O'Neil as the A-10 Rookie of the Year, when A-10 play began.  He broke the 49ers 28-year old single-season freshman steals record (65) and ranks 4th in the NCAA (2.7/gm).  He averages 7.3 pts, 3.7 rebs, 3.2 asts and 2.7 stls -- within reach of the A-10 freshman record of 2.8 (Temple's Pepe Sanchez in 1996-97.)

JB AT HOME IN A-10: In A-10 games, Javarris Barnett scores 13.7 points with a  .512 FG% and a .476 3FG%.  He ranks 2nd in A-10 games with 2.3 3FG/gm and 3rd with a .476 3FG%.  He is especially effective at home, where he is averaging 18.8 points over the last six games (w/27 v. Xavier (7-8 3FG); 23 vs. SLU (9-14 FG).  Barnett averages a team-high 17.2 points at home, shooting .563 from the floor; .585 3FG%.

OF LATE:

Charlotte has won three of its last five and owns a tw-game home win streak. In each of the three wins, opponents were held under 70 points and to 40% shooting or less. 

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

At 13-13; 5-8 in A-10, the 49ers have passed last year's overall and A-10 win totals (10-20; 2-14).

Pierria Henry (4th in NCAA in steals) has had at least one steal in every game and multiple steals in 21 games.  He has broken the 49ers 28-year old freshman record with 65 steals.

Chris Braswell (1011); Derrio Green (948); are #24; #26 all-time in scoring. 

Javarris Barnett (127) is #14 all-time in three-pointers, 1 shy of #13 Lamont Mack, 128

Derrio Green (164) is #10 all-time in three-pointers made, 10 shy of #9 (De'Angelo Alexander, 174).  Javarris Barnett (127, 14th) has cracked the 49ers all-time top 15 in three-pointers and is 1 shy of #13 (Lamont Mack, 128).

LOOKING BACK: RECAP LAST GAME:

Chris Braswell scored his 1000th point and the 49ers shot 47% and hit 4-of-7 second half threes to topple George Washinton, 72-62, Wednesday night.  Braswell scored 19 pointswhile Javarris Barnett (3-3 threes) and DeMario Mayfield (8-11 FT) added 18 and 15 points.   Charlotte led by five at the half and used an 18-3 run midway through the second half to build th elead to double-digits.   GW shot 40% for the game, including .379 in teh second half as the 49ers posted their first double-digit A-10 win of the year.

Charlotte is 9-2 when holding foes under 40%, including two of its last wins:  Rhode Island (.354); Fordham (.309).  The 49ers are 9-2 when holding opponents under 65 points.

MAYFIELD EMERGES: Sophomore DeMario Mayfield has posted three double-doubles in his last six games.  He's scored in double figures in 9 of his last 11.  In A-10 games, he leads the 49ers with 8.3 rebounds per game -- and has pulled double digit boards in three of his last four games (11.0/gm). He shares the team lead with six double-doubles and ranks 7th in the A-10 with 7.0 boards.

GRAND THEFT:

Charlotte ranks in the top 25 in steals per game (8.6; 21st) and Pierria Henry (2.7; 4th) ranks in the top 5.

FRESHMAN STEALS RECORD:

With 65 steals, Pierria Henry has broken the 49ers freshman steals record.  He is just the third 49ers freshman with 50 thefts. Keith Williams set the freshman record at 54 in 1983-84. Phil Ward also had 51 as a frosh in 1978-79.

     His 65 steals are 6th most in a single-season.

     The A-10 freshman record is 91 (TJ McConnell, '10-11) and the A-10 freshman record per game is 2.8 (Pepe Sanchez, '96-97).

STARTING GUARDS:

Pierria Henry is the 49ers starting point guard as a freshman.  Here are the 49ers four-year starting guards that Henry could join, with Keith Williams the only true four-year point guard:

Career-Best 20+: The 49ers have had three different players score a career-high of over points this semester.  Javarris Barnett had a career-high 27 vs. Xavier, DeMario Mayfield scored a career-high 25 points vs. Kennesaw State, and Chris Braswell scored his career-high of 31 at UMass.  The 49ers have 10 20-point games: Braswell 5; Barnett 4; Mayfield 1

BRASWELL'S CAREER NIGHT:

Chris Braswell scored a career-high 31 points at UMass.  Braswell hit 9-of-15 shots, including 3-of-5 threes and made 10-of-11 foul shots.  He added 9 boards.  It is the most points scored by a 49er this year and the most since Shamari Spears had 31 vs. George Washington, 2/3/10.

BRASWELL MAKING MARK:  With 1011 career points and 660 career rebounds in his third year, Chris Braswell is on his way up the career charts.  He could become just the 8th player in school history to record 1000 points and 750 rebounds.  Only three 49ers in school history have posted 1000 of each:

     Cedric Maxwell (1824 p; 1117 r)

     Jarvis Lang (1855 p; 1047 r)

     Curtis Withers (1750 p; 1042 r)

PAINT POWER:

Charlotte scored 50 points in the paint in the win against Richmond, including 32 of 34 first half points.  The 49ers made a season-low one three-pointer on just six attempts.  Javarris Barnett, who ranked in the A-10's top 10 last year in three-point shooting, hit 9-of-11 shots for 22 points, and attempted just one three-pointer.

The Charlotte 49ers have one of the nation's top 20 youngest rosters.  Charlotte's roster of 13 players has a total of 18 years of collegiate playing experience, counting junior college years (1.38 avg. per player).
