THE HEADLINES

The Charlotte 49ers (12-12; 4-7, A-10) travel to Richmond, Saturday.  Both Charlotte (T10th, 4-7) and Richmond (12th, 4-8) have four A-10 wins, but Charlotte holds a half-game lead in the standings.  Javarris Barnett scored 22 points as Charlotte defeated Richmond, 75-70 at home to open the A-10 season.  Charlotte has won two of its last three league games and has more wins (12) and more A-10 wins (4) than last year. Chris Braswell is 24 points shy of 1000.

KEY STRETCH: Charlotte's next two games are against teams the 49ers are tied with in the A-10 win column.  The 49ers (4-7) face Richmond (4-8) and George Washington (4-7).  Charlotte is tied with George Washington for 10th in the A-10 standings, a half-game in front of 12th-place Richmond.  There is a four-way tie for 6th at 6-5 in the A-10 (St. Bonaventure, La Salle, Dayton and Duquesne), two games ahead of the 49ers. Charlotte plays two of those teams, St. Bonaventure and Duquesne at home after George Washington.

A-10 Rookie OF THE WEEK: Freshman Pierria Henry was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week, this past week, after scoring a career-high 14 points with five assists and five steals in the 49ers win over Rhode Island, 73-66.  It was his second A-10 Rookie of the Week honor.  With those five steals, Henry also broke the 49ers freshman record for steals.  He now has 61.  He ranks 4th in the NCAA with 2.8/game.  Henry was tabbed by ESPN.com's Dana O'Neil as the A-10 Rookie of the Year, when A-10 play began.

Niners; Braswell Road Warriors:  Charlotte (6-7 on the road) has won 6 road games, doubling last year's road win total (3-13). Those 6 road wins are second-most in the A-10, behind Temple (8-3).  In A-10 road games, Chris Braswell is averaging 20.5 points (22.0 ppg over the last 3 A-10 road games: 19 at La Salle; 20 at Fordham; 27 at Dayton) and has two double-doubles. Pierria Henry (4th in NCAA in steals) has had at least one steal in every game and multiple steals in 19 games.  He has broken the 49ers 28-year old freshman record with 61 steals.
