Charlotte, N.C. --The Charlotte 49ers have agreed in principle to a three-year deal with FOX Sports 730 to serve as the flagship radio station for 49ers basketball broadcasts, and come 2013, 49ers football broadcasts, as well. "We are extremely excited for both our program and our fans," said 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose. "We have had a strong broadcast partner in the past and are thrilled that we will be able to deliver our games to our fans on a consistent basis on Fox Sports 730. In addition, by returning our games to a formatted sports radio station, we look to improve our program's radio presence in the marketplace, throughout the day." "We couldn't be more excited to begin a long term relationship with the Charlotte 49ers," said Lanny Ford, General Manager at FOX Sports Radio 730 AM. "We are thrilled to be the home of a basketball program with such a strong tradition. And, to be chosen to be part of history with the launch of 49ers football in 2013 is a huge." The agreement, negotiated and executed by the 49ers Media Rights holder, Signature Sports Group, Inc., calls for FOX Sports 730 to carry Charlotte 49ers men's basketball games and "The Alan Major Show", which is head basketball coach Alan Major's weekly coaches show, for the next two years in addition to football shows that could be developed before 2013. In the third year, the agreement will expand to include the 49ers Football broadcasts and "The Brad Lambert Show", a weekly show that will run throughout the season. The Charlotte 49ers will unveil their football program in the fall of 2013. "We are excited to be able to answer the call to provide Charlotte 49ers' fans with a sports radio station as the flagship home of all Charlotte 49ers' broadcasts," said Signature Sports Group principal Steve Hall. "We look forward to working with Lanny Ford and HRN Broadcasting (Inc.) as we did for a very healthy and long-standing relationship with CBS Sports Charlotte." Longtime "Voice of the Charlotte 49ers" Matt Swierad will begin his 11th season calling the action for the 49ers men's basketball games in 2011-12. Radio broadcasts will continue to be available online through the 49ers Niner Network program at www.charlotte49ers.com. |
